Ten Facts about HPV and GARDASIL
The invitation to vaccination campaign, initiated by Merck, promoting their product, GARDASIL, the first vaccine approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use against two human papilloma viruses or HPVs that have been identified as causing the majority of cervical cancers, invites women and girls to be One Less person to become a victim of cervical cancer by getting vaccinated with GARDASIL.
The money/profit motive truly shouldn't be discounted when looking for the rationale behind this stampede to vaccinate the young. Minimally, more research is needed before the green light is given to incorporate yet another series of vaccines, with questions still being raised about all the shots children receive at present!
The ties among so many of the universities, organizations, researchers and physicians with the pharmaceutical companies, obviously, ties that should not be viewed as an outright indictment of anyone or any groups' motives but, nonetheless, do give one pause!
I've read a physician's statement, regarding the insert that accompanies GARDASIL, challenging Merck's claim that GARDASIL prevents cancer. The physician states that the period of growth associated with cervical cancer growth is 8 to 12 years. If the longest time period any study participants were followed during the GARDASIL trials was 4 or 5 years, according to Merck's own literature, a claim that GARDASIL prevents cancer, without data spanning that 8 to 12 years, is disingenuous.
This physician offered musings that by vaccinating against selected HPVs, this may cause some of the remaining HPVs to become more virulent or resistant.
More than half of the vaccines used in the U.S. are distributed by Vaccines For Children (VFC). At present, to the best of my knowledge, 50 of the 55 offices or arms of the VFC have purchased GARDASIL for distribution in the U.S. through that program. When the worldwide distribution plan is viewed, well, that adds a whole 'nother layer to all of this!
Ultimately, all of this technology is a brave new world with research running ahead, doing what it does. I guess I'm a worrywart but, slowing down a bit wouldn't hurt!
The National Vaccine Information Center, a parent lead organization, states as its purpose “....to prevent vaccine injuries and deaths through public education. NVIC provides assistance to parents whose children have suffered vaccine reactions; promotes scientific research to investigate vaccine safety and effectiveness as well as to identify factors which place individuals at high risk for suffering vaccine reactions; advocates the institution of oversight mechanisms and informed consent protections within the mass vaccination system to make it safer.”
Via snail mail, I received literature about the organization which included information, with the stated aim, to benefit anyone wishing to learn more about HPV and the HPV vaccine, GARDASIL.
A leaflet, entitled Get the facts about HPV and GARDASIL vaccine to make an informed decision, provided the following facts:
HPV infection is naturally cleared by more than 90% of sexually active women and men but, rarely, HPV infection can become chronic.
Among high risk factors for chronic HPV infection are smoking: co-infection with herpes, chlamydia, or HIV; long term birth control use; multiple births.
Women chronically infected with HPV, who don't get pre-cancerous cervical lesions promptly identified and treated, can get cervical cancer and die.
After pap screening became routine in the 1950's, cervical cancer cases in the U.S. dropped 74%.
Less than 1% of all diagnosed cancer cases and cancer deaths in the U.S. every year involve cervical cancer.
Merck's GARDASIL vaccine was studied for several years in less than 1200 girls under age 16 and a few hundred girls age 11 or younger.
GARDASIL contains only 2 of 15 HPV types associated with cervical cancer and it is unknown if it will prevent cervical cancer long term or if it will increase the risk for those actively infected with HPV types in the vaccine.
Reported GARDASIL reactions include sudden collapse, seizures, facial paralysis, Guillian Barre Syndrome, arthritis and other serious health problems.
9. It is unknown if GARDASIL will cause infertility, cancer or damage genes.
10. There is no pre-licensure data proving it is safe to give GARDASIL with most of the other vaccines for children.

Karen Hatter, thanks for this! I've seen the public service announcements for Guardasil, and it amazed me how willingly the government was willing to require kids to get this more-or-less untested vaccine. Good stuff.

So?
Most people will pass on this story unless they know what HPV or Gardasil is. Better headline with info might help.
Read the story and got that Gardasil is a vaccine, but still don't know what HPV is.

Karen Hatter, good work. Corporate histories of negligence and un-informed human tresting as was done to African and Latino children in Florida recently, (A company experimented with HIV/AIDS drugs solely on non-European children, when asked why they were so selective, it turned out that one of the reasons they offered was that Non-European parents assume a certain level of trust in establishment authorities and were not expected to question the study) as well as the various medications rushed to market and only removed from aises after successful lawsuits or enough people die to cause negative public reaction.
One can also look at Bayer in realtion to the HIV/AIDS spread in poorer locales and the Tuskeegee study which effectively encouraged STD's in the American African community. We should all be concerned about profit and ethnic/gender marginalisation and how they relate to the health industry because it is in fact, an industry. - The Angryindian

Thank you so much for your input, Angryindian! May I also add, regarding the often referred to Tuskegee Experiment, this experiment was not a secret experiment, unknown to the medical community. When any of the men enlisted in this experiment sought medical treatment outside of the desired parameters provided to them, they were refused treatment because their names were distributed to medical facilities with instructions to deny them treatment.
Unfortunately, the 'don't question the plan since some authority said it is fine' mindset is a widely held belief system. My mantra is always we, as consumers and seekers of medical aid and treatment, can no longer sit silently by, assuming that we do not have to be involved because, as you say, the health industry is an industry, which, when defined by Merriam Webster, included in its definition is: esp one that employs a large personnel and capital, capital also known as m-o-n-e-y.

Thank you so much for your post. The information I received here is invaluable.
I'm been being pressured by my non-custodial ex-wife to vaccinate my 12 year old daughter.
Every parent needs to be more informed and more involved in medical decisions for their children.

My daughter was vacinated and after the third shot at the age of 17 she now has arthritis. I have been researching and found out that during the clinical trials several girls came down with arthritis but it was dismissed. I am sure there is a link. She was perfectly healthy. A cheerleader, and a equestrian she was active and then her finger swelled up and now she had polyarticular arthritis.
I believe the risks outweigh the benefits if you do your research. Don't ruch to get the vaccine for young girls weight and see if it stays on the market.

My daughter who is 13, started showing symptoms THE DAY AFTER her 3rd HPV shot. Within weeks, it totally flared up and was totally out of control, with every joint being inflammed. It is still under investigation, but she likely will be diagnosed with Polyarticular Arthritis as well. What a tragedy...

Gardasil -update. Please review research study from S. Qureshi "Boric acid enhances in vivo Ehrlich ascites carcinoma cell proliferation in Swiss albino mice". Boric acid is one of the ingredient in Gardasil. This study indicates that boric acid is a possible carcinogenic and
mutagenic (changes mutation) agent. After boric acid treatment histopathologic studies
indicated "fast growth (tumor),several mitotic figures and mixed inflammatory reactions."
Warning, new dangers, caution.Gardasil is dangerous, deadly, possible carcinogenic/mutagenic agent.
