Tesco Farm turtles to be sold in their Supermarkets in China.

The turtles are sold alive, once purchased the customer can have the live turtle butchered in the Tesco Supermarket. The customer can also choose to take the live turtle home to kill it in any way they wish.

The inhumane way turtles can be treated and killed in China is well documented, and there are a variety of media on the Internet to endorse this. Here is a Very Graphic animation to show this:

By allowing their customers to take home live turtles, Tesco could be allowing and endorsing the cruel torture of turtles, because they cannot control how the turtles are killed.

Tesco have turned their back on UK values of animal welfare to gain popularity and profit in China.

Organisations such as Care for the Wild International and the Tortoise Trust,  have been in contact with Tesco trying to stop this activity.

Turtlesco has also offered to discuss this issue with Tesco, and has received no meaningful response that addresses the issues.

There is a Petition running - the Turtlesco - Tesco Turtle Petition, in a very short time it has received over a thousand objections.

I wonder how long Tesco will continue to be happy to lose its UK customer support over its activity in China ?
