NP Rank:
That’s A Loyal Friend You Have There, Nancy
Messrs Horton and Nichols at Caelum et Terra have often cited Daniel Larison but I don't think I ever read any of his writing until after Rod Dreher linked to him during the late election campaign; in any event, I now look and read regularly. Today's post, about the "low comedy in high places" that we have to look forward to in Washington these next couple of years, is the first of his posts at Eunomia I have entirely agreed with:
To recap the first post-election week after Democratic victory: âethically challengedâ John Murtha receives a personal endorsement from the presumed future Speaker of the House because of his longtime support after pledging a new era of ethical and clean government, and then Pelosi commits herself even more to Murtha by openly working for his election as Majority Leader, which is followed by Murtha mocking her ethics reform bill as âtotal crap,â further confirming everyoneâs suspicions that he is indeed âethically challengedâ and the perfect example of the kind of politician who should not be Majority Leader in the new Congress.
In the first week. I had nothing to do with those people who thought that one ought to vote for a Democrat precisely in order to send a message to her incumbent Republican opponent. But even I didn't think that the Democrats would begin to screw up in the first week.
