There are many news packages out there that serve as a good metric for what multimedia journalism means, but the bar has been set with April Kinser’s comprehensive Dismantling the Bomb at DallasNews.com. We hear that we need a multimedia skillset in the new media - that journalists have to incorporate video and the web. Dismantling the Bomb shows us why.

Shame the blog does not a great deal extra - we could of course talk about Now Public - with the merge of web and images and stories, or is it stories and images - not forgetting video.

Of course the issue with such a level of multiskilling is a loss in one area. It is only by being totally focussed that you can follow that lead to its natural conclusion, write well and keep the momentum going to the next...spending to much time on allied activities can tend to kill it. That's why specialisation can work well, even in today's environment.

I don't know too many news camera operators in regional areas who have to film, scrip interview and write who can do a really good job at them all.

Better still, is perhaps learning how to make stories more complete - include links to sorce websites etc.
