NP Rank:
The Cranes of Miami
Dave Barry cracks me up. I read this post he wrote to the coming crowds for the SuperBowl... A great look into the world of Miami, as comedy is usually more telling than head on reporting. Now, I lived in Florida for about 3 months, and half of my family is still there. It is a land of constant construction, orange barrels, and strange happenings.
"The Forest of Cranes: Miami boasts the
world's largest outdoor collection of free-range construction cranes.
Some of them are being used to construct unsold condominiums -- a major
industry here -- but many of them have no apparent purpose other than
to screw up traffic. There seem to be more of them every day. We
suspect they are having wild crane sex at night."
Here is the original post with the whole article...
But when I read this part of the article I started thinking of the construction cranes, which live in Vancouver, where I live, and wondered could there really be that many construction cranes in Miami. Well, the short answer is yes. Oh, man the city is filled with them, it is sort of astounding. I found a whole stream of photographs, which speak to exactly what Barry was saying, amazingly eerie...
