History is written by the victors, which is why it is so hard to find positive history facts on people of colour. But they will tell you all about slavery which they claim they are sorry for (well here in the UK they do) but when you hear about slavery how does it make you feel...? Angry? Sad? Confused? So you just being taught about the negative sides of black history is putting black people down almost saying that we were never good enough. But yet people are people regardless of the colour of your skin (I'm half white, half black) if we cut ourselves we bleed, if we're hurt we'll cry, we all have the same emotions we all feel pain, hurt, angry and happiness.

In the UK every day there are children as young as 10 years old killing (shooting & stabbing) and being killed and the majority is black on black.

How much more positive would it be to say to ALL children and adults look at Walter Tull, Mary Prince, Mary Seacole, Bessie Coleman, Dr Daniel Hale Williams, Madam C J Walker, Henry Blair, George Washington Carver, Sarah Boone, John Hanson, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and the list this endless, these black historian endured slavery, racism, segregation, and so much more, but yet they all over came these barriers and still achieved amazing things and all have contributed so much to world history not just black history. Most of these historians couldn't even read or write and would have to sign with an X. So if these great historians can achieve what they did in their time then any of us can achieve what we want in this time!!

 I do believe John Hanson was the first president based on the research I have carried out and it is sad that still today hundreds of year later that he is still being covered up.

As a psych major, I'm finding all the comments I've been reading in different places about racism, a black president, etc, to be very facinating. As a citizen of the US, I'm kind of disapponted.

First of all, racism is a collection  of thoughts, feelings and conditioning. Therefore, it can not be controlled by anyone else, legislated or punishable by laws. It is our natural born right as a human to have whatever feelings or thoughts we chose. And as members of a free nation, that idea should be supported. What is not our natural born right, is to act on those feelings and thoughts by not allowing another group of people (however classified) to not have equal rights, respect and aknowledgement. People have ugly thoughts all the time...for instance wishing your ex-husband would get hit by a truck. Thoughts or feelings are not what make someone bad or evil, it's their actions. Now if a woman hires someone to hit her ex-husband with a truck, that's a bad woman. Same goes with racism or prejudices of any kind. As Einsteine said "everything is relative". What one person might consider an off the cuff comment, another finds it to be offensive. It would be nice if we, as a people (US citizens) stopped assuming the worst of everyone.

As for whether or not John Hanson was the first president, more importantly it seems, was he black? Well, I don't know, I wasn't there. As a white US citizen, it isn't a matter of not wanting to believe it, it's a matter of evidence. Not to mention common sense. A black man residing at any political position during that time doesn't seem to add up. The only man involved in the Revolution that didn't own slaves, I believe, was John Adams. Regardless of their intentions of laying the ground work for the abolishment of slavery, I still don't see them accepting a black man to the point of the stature. But, like I said, I wasn't there. But if a day comes that I see evidence that is valid, I would be glad to embrace it, how great would that be that our history isn't so tainted. So for any of you that feel you have the right evidence to prove this story to be true, what are you waiting for? Make it known. Write a book, send it to Oprah. Every book she uses gets very high exposure, so give it a shot. One of the best things Obama winning the election did, as well as Oprah (being probably the most well known woman in the world) was take away the idea that being black comes with limitations. It's a new world, thrive in it no matter what your creed or color.

Being black is no longer a valid excuse for not being successful and ignorance is no longer a valid excuse for being an ACTIVE racist. The past is no longer something to hold onto. Embrace the present with the hope of tomorrow.

     In the essay “Oh, Allah, Operate On Us!:  Islam And The Legacy Of American Slavery,” Precious Rasheeda Muhammad argues that Muslim African Americans are “taking back Islam” due to Black African Americans having been Muslims in America and in Africa before White (European) Americans arrived in America, they enslaved the Moors (Black Moorish Muslims) whom Europeans found occupying the land.  In addition to enslaving the Moors, the European initiated the import of millions of other Muslims from the Islamic Empires in the Middle East, and various parts of Africa, and countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea.  Through politics and being a slave to Allah, while worshiping Allah alone, Rasheeda points out, “Records show that as far back as 1312, African Muslims, directed by the brother of Mansa Musa, explored the Americas.”  As one South Asian - American Muslim student asked, “Have immigrant Muslims ever produced a figure like Malik El-Shabazz (Malcolm X) or Muhammad Ali?  No Muslim subgroup understands the political process better than the indigenous African-American, and no group has more experience as oppressed minority than they.”  Rasheeda continue to say, “There is no god but God!  This is the revolutionary message, revealed to the heart of the Prophet Muhammad, that raised up a most ignorant, racist, feuding backward people in his time and lives on in the mission of Islam to unite all of humanity.”  Rasheeda believes that Muslim immigrants and European Americans perceive Muslim African Americans are knowledgeable about Islam because they are not modern immigrant Muslims.  However, Akbar Muhammad, Ph.D. essay in “African-American Muslim, And Loyal To The U.S. argues that Muslim African Americans are taking back Islam,” through Muslim African Americans loyalty to America.  Muhammad quotes from a man who projects his views of the injustice that America has practice and continue to practice on Black African Americans; by, Minister Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam:  “National Representative of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, whom I believe Allah (God) raised among Black people of America to teach us Islam as a means of our reformation and resurrection…I appreciate the privilege that I have to live in America, and, with all her faults there is no nation on this earth where I would rather live…I pray that we will be triumphant over terror and become the Friend of Allah (God) in so doing…I Am Your Servant in the war against evil…”  

     The stereotype Rasheeda and Akbar seek to combat is that Muslim African Americans are viewed as not knowledgeable about Islam.  Rasheeda writes, “Elitism and prejudice are abhorred in Islam, yet there exists a most intense racism against African-Americans and their rightful place as Muslims in Islamic history.”  However, Akbar writes, “As converts to Islam and descendants of converts, Muslim African-Americans are usually viewed by their brethren and others as less knowledgeable about Islam.”  Akbar writes from a perspective that many Muslim African Americans were taught by Elijah Muhammad to know the truth of their lost and found self as Black people in America and their religion Islam, and not by immigrant Muslims who claim Islam.

     Rasheeda and Akbar’s answer to this stereotype is that immigrant Muslims look to Muslim African Americans for wisdom and Americans look to Muslim African Americans to help identify terrorist among Muslims.  Rasheeda writes, “They [Muslim African Americans] have championed the banner of Islam in this manner long before the voices of other Muslims were heard.”  Akbar quotes statements of W. D. Muhammad of the much larger Muslim American Society; that those who initiated the “911” attacks were “terrorists,” “crazy animal [s],” “extremist [s],” and “They are really out of the circle and framework of Islam with their conduct.  So we are talking about terrorists, not Muslims.”

     The way that Rasheeda, Akbar, Farrakhan, and W. D. Muhammad writings are argumentative, they condemn Believing Muslims who were attacked by America first, that now fight against Americans on U.S. soil, but these Muslim African Americans do not fight Americans (in ways that are Islam appropriate) as America enslaves and commit genocide against Black and Muslim Americans.  How do their understandings of Islam contrast with their expressions about America in the past, present, and how they contrast with Islam in other parts of the world; in this, most Muslim African Americans opposed Allah al‘Qur-an.  Most Muslim African Americans do not practice defensive Islam; they practice victimized Islam.  They have no Islam political structure in place in the American government.  Many of them you will find standing behind a democrat or republican to represent their concerns and grievances, whereas Islam in other parts of the world move as an Islam Political force in the fields of rational, spiritual, academic, religious, political, model-society, and Jihad simultaneously as one moving system with all parts in balance against oppression domestically and foreign.
