The Long March: Would you walk to Stand Up?
After marching 280 miles from Oaxaca demonstrators have demanded that Ulises Ruiz step down as governor. I have been watching this story unfold.
Both Mexico City and Oaxaca have been in the news and now they have been brought together and out into the streets... This began with protests by teachers and their supporters, but it has transformed into so much more. All is on the table, playing out in the streets as corruption, present and past murder, tourism, and strong economic influences from abroad are being challenged, even blockaded.
The regional government as well as the federal government is meeting the people whether in Oaxaca or in Mexico City...
Thousands of protesters from Oaxaca have marched to Mexico City to demand their state governor's resignation. They accuse Ulises Ruiz, governor of the southern state, of rigging elections and using brutal forced to put down protests.
