I recently read a post lamenting the unfair treatment of Scooter Libby and the Democrats reaction in juxtaposition with their handling of the William Jefferson scandal. The gentleman wrote, "Tom Delay, was also railroaded out of office by a judge-shopping, dishonest, Democrat Texas prosecutor."
Well, now; "judge-shopping...dishonest...Texas," these are familiar words to all of us these days. The description seems eerily familiar to the Gonzales saga. The orders for that bit of anti-democracy came straight from the horse's mouthpiece, Karl Rove. That's certainly no secret. It may not be against the law, which is contextually arguable, but then again, neither is giving head to a goat.
As far as the Democrats go, their fundamental flaw is that they often lack the courage to follow their convictions. If Jefferson is guilty, he should hang from his toes until every last dirty cent falls out of his pockets & he should watch as the army of hungry homeless come swarming to work their worn fingers around the coins and put them back in their pocket, where they rightfully belong. Some good old fashioned Trickle Up Economics. The principal is the same, only it makes more ethical sense.
With regard to Scooter Libby, he lied to a grand jury. I could be wrong, and may he forgive me if I am, but the opinion I'd read seemed to be from the camp that was throwing mud at Clinton and demanding impeachment for committing the exact same crime. The only difference was the lie itself...and I'm not entirely sure why a good solid lie about a blow is more damaging to a nation than than recklessly ruining the career (and potentially the life) of a woman who served as an asset in counter-terrorism strictly for dubious political gain. There's nothing honorable about loyalty to bad ideas or duplicitous people. Göring was loyal to Hitler, that didn't necessarily make it a noble characteristic. It seems to me, loyalty to a bad idea is an even weaker and worse idea. What is perhaps more dangerous and damaging, is when the elected officials of a state begin to use patriotism as a weapon against the people they were elected to represent.
To be fair, George Bush, Dick Chaney and Karl Rove were not first to do this and they will certainly not be the last. This is a play straight out of the Nazi handbook, discussed openly by Göring himself:
Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. ...Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.
- Hermann Wilhelm Göring (Leading Member of the Nazi Party, Second in Command of the Third Reich, Commander of the Luftwaffe)

The Vice President of the United States is Dick Cheney, not Dick Chaney.

The Vice President of the United States is a Douchebag...but if that's the worst offense I could offer on short notice, I can live with that...after all, I had a Yankees game to go to (and they won by a beautiful margin). Time is tight, but I too can edit...so let me know if you're interested. I can dig it.

Dick Cheney has served this country with integrity and competence as a Representative, as a presidential chief of staff, as Secretary of Defense, and now as Vice President. You throw disgusting accusations around about people like it was nothing, and you have most of your facts wrong. Scooter Libby did not 'out' Valerie Plame. Richard Armitage did. The President has absolute power to hire and fire federal prosecutors. Democrats are just looking for another fake scandal to trumpet. They know very well (and so should you) that President Clinton fired 92 of the 93 prosecutors when he took office - as well as the travel office staff.
