In the 70's blockbuster, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Francois Truffaut in character as Lacombe, excitedly tries to communicate his understanding of things to the government types running the musical/light show that has been erected to entice, what they have obviously assumed will be friendly aliens, to come down, set a spell and stay for a visit. Lacombe believed all the people who had arrived at Devil's Tower in Wyoming, despite government warnings to stay away, had a shared vision serving as an invitation for them to come there to meet the aliens.

Well now, everyone's invited to Roswell, New Mexico, the rumored home of Area 51, containing the remains of dead aliens and their craft. The town wants to build an amusement park. Currently proposed to be named Alien Apex Resort, if all goes well, the park could open as early as 2010.

Alien abduction may or may not be included in the price of admission.

I just saw part of a documentary last night on Hangar 18- fascinating stuff. One of the UFOlogists was saying something to the effect of, "Are they flying saucers? Military aircraft? Crashed jets? Doesn't matter-the point is that they're out there picking over crash sites and hiding whatever they find".

But hey, if we can get a roller coaster... (close encouters of the third rail?)

Close encounters of the third rail! LOVE it! For the little kids, instead of Whack a Mole, how about Whack a Grey? Too violent, maybe?

I'm only going if the "Smoking Man" is there...

Love this -- "'Nobody will be harmed and everybody will be returned, hopefully, in the same shape,' concept designer Bryan Temmer said Friday."
