A new German cash subsidy starting on January 1 will give new mothers up to 25,000 euros to ease the financial burden of parenthood, but babies born even a minute before the clock strikes won't get it.  So, some mothers are deliberately delaying giving birth. 

Doctors have been warning women not to take any medication to try to delay labour, and few, they stress, would put the life of their baby at risk for the sake of the money.
