Give college students less instruction and more freedom to think for themselves in laboratory classes, and the result may be a four-fold increase in their test scores.
I won't be totally scientific in suggesting that letting students learn from doing in all kinds of courses leads to better learning and retention, but all
my research has shown the same kind of advantage. An unintended outcome I found in my research, was the number of students who became instructors themselves after going through project-based classes where there were problems to solve in order to create some real product.

As a college student I completely and totally agree with the above comment. When a student is engaged in what he or she is learning, instruction proves only to be annoying and frustrating. They want to investigate the unforeseen, to use the current knowledge to figure out new solutions.
