Three more persons were killed, several injured and many shops were set on fire in the Karachi violence, which continued on second consecutive day today (Sunday).

While at least 36 people were killed, over 150 people were injured and over 75 vehicles were torched yesterday.

Fresh violence was reported at Banaras Chowk, Qasba Colony near Quaidabad, Orangi Town, Gulbarg, Lyari, Superhighway, Aurangabad in Nazimabad and other areas.

Four shops and a petrol pump were set on fire in Gulbarg. Some shops and a petrol pump were also set on fire at Water Pump.

The Water Pump fire has also spread to a market. The fire fighters along with a fire brigade are trying to extinguish the fire.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested over 50 people who were allegedly involved in the violence

All the main roads of the city are deserted and the communication at National Highway and railway traffic has also been suspended.

Meanwhile Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad has appealed the activists of all political parties to remain peaceful and avoid any clash.


The Rangers have taken control in the city. The Rangers contigents have also been called in Hyderabad.

At least 31 people were killed, 115 injured and dozens of vehicles were torched as a result of violence erupted on the occasion of visit of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry to the metropolis on Saturday.

The incidents of exchange of firing among the activists of rival parties were reported in Shahra-e-Faisal near Drig Road, Kala Board, Banaras, Malir, PIA Colony, SITE area and other areas. The firing was also reported at Baloch Colony and Guru Mandar.


Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry who was scheduled to address lawyers in Karachi is heading back to Islamabad, It was also learnt that the CJ with his accompanied lawyers have been issued with the boarding passes and are about to depart for the federal capital.

Pakistan Rangers are called in to take control of the city as the voilence is increasing. Despite the deployment of 15,000 police and paramilitary troops in the city, opposing groups converged and shot at each other outside the airport building.<?xml:namespace prefix = o />At least eight people died in the area, emergency officials told Aaj television, premises of which also came under fire for five hours with no intervention by authorities.Four bodies were lying outside the studio, its correspondent said, while a mob burned cars and motorbikes belonging to the staff of the station. Aaj has given exhaustive coverage to Chaudhry’s stand-off with the authorities in recent weeks.

As by Govt. sources the death toll rises to 28, Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad has asked the federal government to send army in Karachi to control the violence, which erupted on Saturday claiming at least 28 lives and left scores injured.

Ishrat-ul-Ebad has also called upon federal government that Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry should be asked to go back to Islamabad keeping in very tense situation in Karachi.


According to the latest news sources the firing among the activists of rival parties are still going on. Peoples of Karachi city are afraid and try their best to stay at their homes.

At least 20 people were killed, several injured and dozens of vehicles were torched as a result of violence erupted on the occasion of visit of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry to the metropolis on Saturday.

President General Pervez Musharraf has called an emergency meeting with the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz over Karachi killings. Important decisions would be taken in a high level meeting, the sources said.

The incidents of exchange of firing among the activists of rival parties were reported in Shahra-e-Faisal near Drig Road, Kala Board, Banaras, Malir, PIA Colony, SITE area and other areas. The firing was also reported at Baloch Colony and Guru Mandar.

Advisor to the Chief Minister for Home Affairs Waseem Akhtar said that at least six activists of MQM were killed.

Three activists of MQM were killed in firing of unidentified assailants at Wireless Gate, said, MQM MPA Faisal Sabzwari.

An activist of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) was killed in firing at Shahra-e-Faisal near Drig Road, the JI sources said.

Two people were killed in firing at Model Colony. The victims included Asghar Shah, Jahanzeb, Mir Khan and others.

I am trying to get as much as I can get update .... Now the Death toll mentioned by Govt. is raised to 27... but as per other news sources its double then that ...
