Tibet Can Not Be Saved
Okay, I get it, China invaded Tibet in 1951 and Tibetans want theircountry back. But on a scale of global atrocities, which include theRwandan Genocide where 800 thousand people were slaughtered in a sixmonth period or the current war in Darfur where at least 200 thousandpeople have been slain, I’d say the Tibetans have it pretty good.
Over the last few weeks, the Tibetans have staged various proteststhat have included extinguishing the Olympic torch, hanging signs offthe Golden Gate Bridge, and attacking political leaders. Of course theone fundamental problem with all their protests is that theinternational community, in particular the United States will neverfully support a Free Tibet.
Last year the United States imported 387 Billion worth of goods fromChina but they only bought 65 billion worth of our goods. Meaning welike their flat screens but they don’t like our Ford Focus. As a resultChina has 800 billion of our George Washingtons’. And if they get ridof them, the value of our dollar will decline. But if they hold ontothem, our dollar is worth more, meaning we can buy more Chinese goodslike the computer you’re reading this post on. Which in turn means theUnited State’s economic stability is not just tied to China butbeholden to it.
So unfortunately for Tibet, they are nothing more than China’sabused girlfriend that we are helpless to protect. Sure we see hergetting hit, but if we step in and say something, then daddy is goingto take away our allowance.

China has actually 'held' Tibet for most of the last 500 years. A lot longer than the USA has 'held' Hawaii or Canada has 'held' Quebec, both annexed by violent military takeovers if my memory serves me.
What would the USA do if Hawaians started to shoot Howlies, and what did Pierre Elliot Trudeau do in Canada when the FLQ started a violent 'independence' movement in Quebec? He called out the troops and suppressed it.
Let's go on: Britain=imperialist power as was Spain, France, Portugal, Germany. Hmmmmmm....
But hey, it's China bashing time. Let's not consider that they provide us with virtually all our cheap products, and provide cheap labour to all those trans-nationals who want to be able to sell us the cheap products, and let's not consider that they loan the USA a ton of money so that it can go on deluding itself and pretending it is some big deal. How about the loans from China propping up other governments of the 'free' world, and how about China bailing out USA banks and Wall Street shylocks?
It's a lot like biting the hand that feeds ya! They pull the plug and we'll all be on bread-lines and in soup kitchens or just plain begging.
One last point: Ultimately the Dalai Lama just wants his little private fifedom back so he can be God again and the CIA would love to help him do it, 'cause they just hate China.
