NP Rank:
Tony Blair As President Of The EU
Under proposals being considered by the EU, the new president of the European Council would be a permanent replacement for the EU's rotating, six-month presidency.
The president would have few formal powers but would give the EU strategic leadership and represent it on the world stage on issues such as climate change.
===UPDATE===
23/June/2007:
Heads of all 27 EU states argued through the night before finally backing a treaty to replace the failed European Constitution, rejected by Dutch and French voters in 2005.
The new treaty will create a new post of President of Europe and a single legal identity for the EU, allowing it to sign up to international deals.

For a French president to recommend Blair as head of the EU, effectively giving him some degree of power over France, is a massive sea-change, considering France's, ah, differences in opinion over international policy with the UK.

I think that Tony's wife is of French Catholic background, maybe that has something to do with French support for Tony to be president.
