Too Sense: Rush Asks A Black Caller If He's "A Katrina Refugee"

This is why the whole Don Imus thing did not move me.  Limbaugh has been doing this for years but unlike Imus, Limbaugh has never questioned the Bush administration.

Think about it.  Imus, over a period of several months on his morning show began peppering his commentary with questions concerning the Bush administration's scandals and calling for some members of the government to step down.  They took advantage of Imus' big mouth and used that as a pretext for getting rid of him.

In the meanwhile, right-wing talk-radio, which is in reality the only allowable talk radio, barrels on full force insulting non-Europeans with impunity.  Isn't the "plurality" of America great?  - The Angryindian

I've heard Rush Limbaugh say quite a few racist things in my time listening to him, but nothing quite as arrogant and blatant as his exchange with a black caller who very clearly adores him. After giving Rush a spirited greeting, Rush interrupts the called to mention that he's a "student of language" and asks the caller if he's "a Katrina Refugee."

Why?

Because he's black, and he has a southern accent.

CALLER: Black conservative dittos to you my friend. And you’re a real inspiration it’s a real honor to speak with you.

RUSH: Thank you very much for that.

CALLER: And my comment is no more nice guys in the White House. I like president Bush, I respect president Bush, I respect the entire Bush family, but--

RUSH: I have a question.

CALLER: Shoot.

RUSH: Before you finish your point here. Because I am a student of voices and dialects, accents, are you a Katrina Refugee?

CALLER: [laughter] no.

RUSH: Are you from New Orleans or Louisiana?

CALLER: No lifetime Richmond Virginia resident. No.

RUSH: Wow. Okay. Well I didn’t mean anything insulting by it.

CALLER: Well look, I’ve been told I have a southern accent--

RUSH: Well I can’t imagine why they’d say that.

CALLER: They tell me I need to get rid of the accent.

RUSH: No no, it’s who you are, don’t let them talk you out of that.
