(Vancouver, Canada) The Tour de Gastown 2007 was amazing. The rain kept the crowds down but didn't seem to slow down the cyclists. The wet cobble stones and hairpin corners made for an extra exciting race this year!

I cycle quite a bit but would never cycle that fast on wet cobble stones. Those racers were brave to cycle those slippery narrow roads and I soon found myself rooting the riders that were falling. Every time a rider went down the crowd cheered him or her on with cow bells and whistles.

I really didn’t have a favourite moment, because there was so much action that I just kept taking photos and cheering on the wet riders.

Looking forward to Tour de Gastown 2008!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

DaveBryson88, this is Good Stuff. The photos are wonderful - can you tell us what it was like to be there and watch it...I caught part of the women's race and found it very intense and enjoyable to watch. It helped that the NowPublic office is above one of the sharpest turns of the course.

DaveBryson88, thanks for posting this; great photos! Quite beautiful.

If you have a moment, I'd love to hear more about the race--What did you see? Who were you rooting for? What was your favourite moment of the race? I'd love to hear a first-hand account.

Thanks again for the great images. Awesome stuff.

Thank you! I took over 130 photos and luckly a few turned out okay.

What did you see?
The race was amazing! I cycle quite a bit but would never cycle that fast on wet cobble stones. Those racers were amazing!

Who were you rooting for?
I like the rest of the crowd was rooting for anyone who fell. I saw one guy fall twice. I think he was the Orange guy in my photo.

What was your favourite moment of the race?
All of it! I just kept taking photos and chearing on the wet riders.

It's be great if you could add that stuff to the body of the article.

I was rooting for Leah Goldstein - she was giving 110% the whole - the look on her face was inspiring and emotional.

I didn't watch the whole thing but my favourite part was watching them come around the corner after the long straight away. There was some much tension and concentration in their faces.

I think the best part of the men's race was when Bradley Fairall bridged up to the main group - i would have liked to have seen him take it all. Gryshkin sat on to set it up for Hilton Clarke so to see him take second ahead of Tuft was a drag. I have to mention that I would have been interested in seeing Gord Fraser in a bunch sprint to see if he could have placed after coming out of retirement for the race.

oh... and technically given the light conditions these photos are great - thanks for posting them

Hey Optic, <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />Thanks for the insight on those incredible cyclists! I am just a photographer trying to promote the sport through photos. I also like to encourage people to come out to outdoor events in all kinds of weather.  I hope that people will see how interesting events can be even when it is raining. Besides, you get better seats with fewer people. :) BTW, I would also like to encourage people to come out to the Tour de Delta http://www.tourdedelta.com/tourindex.html and the Volley Ball Tournament at Kits beach http://www.volleyballbc.ca/. Both of these events are on the weekend (July 21 & 22, 2007).

Thanks again for the update!

Dave
