The Superferry payload of cars and trucks would generate a line of about 4 miles long. How do I know? I did the experiment above, measuring out the road that had 20 cars stopped in traffic which was between 1/4 mile and 3/10 mile on my odometer. Yes there is natural stopped space in between the cars, they are not touching each other's bumpers, but this is stopped traffic, and my figures are not a hoax...280 cars would be 14 times as long as this line of 20 cars or 3.5 miles minimum. Honestly, try it for yourself. You'll be shocked. The Superferry is due to start in Hawaii in July 2007, having gotten a Governor's exemption on an Environmental Impact Study requirement. State senators are introducing a bill in January to change that, but we need help--financial, and exposure--letter writing. If any of you can help. email me or the group, see our website above for more info. A big thanks!
