Two Aer Lingus planes were grounded for several hours at Shannon Airport this morning after they were struck by lightning. The aircraft, arriving from Boston and New York, both sustained damage to their noses as they prepared to land at around 6am.
Both planes landed safely, but were unable to continue on the Dublin legs of their journeys and an extra flight was provided to take passengers to Dublin.
Work was carried out on both aircraft at Shannon before they returned to service this evening and departed as scheduled for Boston and New York.
An Aer Lingus spokeswoman confirmed that no one was injured during either incident.
