In Canada the winter season is harsh, most escape to Cuba legally--and Americans illegally.
I dont really follow politics or follow any one, I love to travel and discover new lands and see the world. So much politics for a beach that is beautiful and the largest Caribbean island. My trip to Cuba was the time of my life and also very insightful to legal restrictions on Americans who visit there. We all want our passports stamped to remind us of our trip, but if your American you probably want to stay away from that passport stamp. I was shocked to here that restrictions still apply for Americans traveling to Cuba.
To whom do these sanctions regulations apply? All U.S. citizens and permanent residents wherever they are located, all people and organizations physically in the United States, and all branches and subsidiaries of U.S. organizations throughout the world. If your an American citizen it is ILLEGAL for you to step one foot on Cuban land because the United States Government has an EMBARGO AGAINST ANYTHING to do with CUBA!!!
That means that Americans can't travel there, cant exchange goods or money until the Embargo is lifted and it is unlikely to be lifted until Fidel Castro, who is the country's Leader or DICTATOR, depends on how you see him, dies, passes away or steps down from his position of Cuban leader. Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz (born August 13, 1926) is the current Cuban leader, though due to illness, his duties have been transferred to his younger brother, Raúl Modesto Castro Ruz.
WHO CAN GO - I say anyone can go to Cuba. Cause you gotta go see the coral reef, swim with dolphins- believe it I shook hands with the dolphins fin, underground caves and eat osyters on the beach ( i know what your thinking but at least try it ) and check out the exciting Cuban culture, music and tropical weather if you get a chance, you have to put Cuba on your top ten list. And dont worry about going, most Americans fly to Cuba via third countries -- Mexico, Canada and the Bahamas. I say come to Canada and fly into Cuba from here. Canada offers you the easiest and safest way to reach Cuba! Eh, Safe.
Should Americans visit Cuba? Well the law says that you need specific permission from the U.S. government. But thousands of Americans travel to Cuban illegally each year, and almost no one is threatened with fines. Sounds like J-walking and in this case its 90 miles over the Straits of Florida / Atlantic Ocean to Cuba. Wanna hear something crazy, Americans can be fined $250,000, and up to 10 years in prison, if they are prosecuted for visiting Cuba. A document was signed that can fine you of up to $50,000 on U.S. citizens who visit Cuba at their own expense. They can also confiscate your property. Damn that would be an expensive Cuban cigar.
The funny thing is that so many Americans were on the plane with me going to Cuba, i met so many Americans on the beach and at the resort, what a great time. The government of Cuba doesnt care at all wheather your American or not. They will let you in as a visitor even though you're American, they don't care. And they wont even STAMP your PASSPORT as they know you are not allowed in CUBA by the United States Government.
Cuba is full of history with icons such as Ernesto Guevara de la Serna (June 14, 1928 – October 9, 1967), commonly known as Che Guevara ( roughly translated the phrase means “Fight ’till victory” ), El Che or just Che was an Argentine-born Marxist revolutionary, political figure, and leader of Cuban and internationalist guerrillas. Che Guevara joined Fidel Castro's revolutionary movement. A historical summary, on January 1, 1959 Batista left Cuba and Castro took over the government of Cuba. Following this, the next year and a half Fidel Castro held power and siezed properties. Castro allied himself with the Soviet Union. Due to the residual anti-Americanism left over from the Platt-Amendment the Cuban people enthusiastically supported Castro's independence from the United States.
Cuba has its areas of poverty but it is minimal compared to their abundance of culture and a long interesting history. Cuba's music is highly syncopated i love the percussion driven music which has brought forth what is today's salsa. I met the coolest people and very cool choregraphed cool funky dancers. My spanish is not that good but I managed with no problems at all, and most of the people there speak english. They are the kindest and sincere people i have ever met who are only concerned that you have a wonderful time in Cuba. I highly recommend going to Cuba to see this untouched country and its history. The largest Caribbean island, Cuba offers breathtaking beaches and scenery; fascinating history; rich culture; ecological wonders and more. It will give you the inspiration to those who want change and inspire people to continue fighting for independence, human rights and freedoms. A man who “made” things happen in his life.
As Michael Moore put it: "Let the American people travel freely to Cuba if they choose to do so" . And both countries should shake hands now in these modern times. The beaches are the best in the Caribbean and its a perfect place to take a fresh look at where our world is today. Ive never been a follower, I guess Im an adventurer and thats what brought me to Cuba. All this, and an exceptionally warm welcome from the Cuban people, makes the island so attractive to millions of tourists from around the world and my friends and I. With Canada's winter season being at an estimated minus 30 degress Celsius = minus 22 Fahrenheit, its definately worth getting on a plane with my American neighbours for a 3 hour flight to Cuba to hang out with the revolutionary leader Castro Fidel and the wonderful Cuban people. There is something about Cuba and there's something about that man in the photo.
Absolutely amazing. I was in Varadero and Havana.
