Truck Fire on the Jersey Turnpike

A New York City garbage truck with engine trouble caught fire on the New Jersey Turnpike tonight around 5:00 pm.The truck then burst into flames and the leaking diesel fuel started a brush fire in the Meadowlands.

Luckily, it was a holiday (Good Friday) and traffic was light. But the turnpike was closed in both directions while fire crews fought the blaze.

It was soon brought under control and the turnpike was opened back up for traffic shortly thereafter.

 Fire crews are keeping watch overnight in case of any flare ups.
