Bitwine.com Co-founder, Alon Cohen, demonstrates its application at the January 9th NYC Tech Meetup. Bitwine allows you to source experts and pay them for their time. The product leverages Skype's audio and video capabilities and also includes a built-in payment solution, calendaring, scheduling and user ratings. Very slick application. Alon Cohen was also the co-founder of Vocaltec, the company that pioneered the VOIP industry in 1994.

Years ago the NY Times bought a company called "AnswerCo". Then Google had its Answer experts. But the idea that you could have one app handling in essence CRM, that's pretty wild. Can you imagine what Skype might do for citizen journalism???

yep, the bitwine connector widget (which contains presence information - e.g. whether someone is online) on each NP member page could be a great way to tap location-based experts for the site, for real time reports via bitwine/skype. it would be cool to share the audio/video of the bitwine/skype sessions on nowpublic.
