Virginia Tech says there were shootings at both ends of the 2,600-acre campus.

The first two deaths came at about 0715am at West Ambler Johnston, a co-educational hall of residence that houses 895 people.

The remaining shootings came about two hours later at Norris Hall, an engineering building.

It is not yet clear what happened in the time between the first and second shootings and why the gunman was not apprehended - some students have already voiced their anger.

College police chief Wendell Flinchum said authorities believed that the first shooting was an isolated incident and there was therefore no need to close the campus.

He said investigations were ongoing to confirm that the two shooting incidents were connected.

OLD story... the police have confirmed there was only ONE shooter.  You should be more careful when reading coverage of a breaking story; often you'll see early reports, such as the one you've hightlighted, that were published before subsequent information became available.

There was only one shooter at Virginia Tech.

Well, thank you... I was pretty askant myself and that's why the question mark. That fact notwithstanding, whatever became of the man arrested after the shooting? Who was he and why was he arrested in the first place, AFTER the shooting, when the facts of that shooting had become clearer? The report said one heavily armed man was asking after his girlfriend, Chu had only a Glock hand gun. Yes, the story is old but the facts of that reportage are still relevant to understanding what really went down. It clearly looked like there were two seperate shootings from distances apart according to eye withess accounts. Police confirmations may not always be accurate or sancrosant.
