There are two big events this weekend that should not be missed. First, on Saturday, June 25th, there is the 23rd annual Mermaid Parade in Coney Island, Brooklyn. For those who have never heard of the Mermaid Parade, the following is a brief explanation from coneyisland.com:

Founded in 1983 by Coney Island USA, the not-for-profit arts organization that also produces the Coney island Circus Sideshow, the Mermaid Parade pays homage to Coney Island's forgotten Mardi Gras which lasted from 1903 to 1954, and draws from a host of other sources resulting in a wonderful and wacky event that is unique to Coney Island.

The parade begins at 2pm, rain or shine! For the parade route and more information, please visit Coney Island's Mermaid Parade website.

The second big event is the 36th Annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender PRIDE March to be held this coming Sunday, June 26th.

The PRIDE March is one of the longest in the city, starting at 5th Avenue and 52nd Street and ending at Christopher and Greenwich Streets. The march begins at 12:00pm, capping off NYC's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Pride Week 2005 which runs from June 19th - June 26th.

The march is just one of the many events scheduled for this year's NYC's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Pride Week. For more information, please visit the Heritage of Pride website.
