US politician 'taped accepting cash'

FBI agents videotaped a politician accepting $US100,000 ($132,700) in cash they said was intended as a bribe for a Nigerian official, according to a court document.

They later found $US90,000 of the money hidden in the freezer of Representative William Jefferson, a Louisiana Democrat, the document says.

It says the eight-term congressman received the cash from an FBI informant, who approached the bureau in March 2005 with her suspicion that Mr Jefferson and two business associates conspired to defraud her out of $US3.5 million.
