Golden Goal reporting:

The World Cup is set for its first 9-5 work week of the tournament.
Over
the weekend, England met Paraguay for the opening match on Saturday in
Frankfurt's, Commerzbank Arena. Host team, Germany, opened the
tournament in Munich (the capital of Bavaria) against Costa Rica. On
Friday, the host team, Germany won 4-2 over Costa Rica... While Ecuador defeated Poland 2-0.

Then on Saturday England defeated Paraguay 1-0 without actually scoring a goal.

Sweden was not only tested, but the favorites had their hands full with

Trinidad & Tobago. The game ended in a stalemate 0-0 tie..

And in the late game of the day Argentina did a bit of a flop, but beat a tough Ivory Coast team 2-1...

Sunday was witness to some perhaps suprising scores. In the early game the Netherlands beat a talented Serbian team by inches 1-0.

While
Mexico vs. Iran proved to be a little more action packed. Mexico pulled
away from Iran in the second half of their match and remained perfect
towards their run in the finals with a 3-1 win over a solid Iranian
team.

And in the final game the always talented Portuguese
team showed their muscle early with a lightning quick goal in the
opening minutes. But this turned out to be the only points for the rest
of the day as Angola helped to slow the crowd favorite but they could
not capitalize in any way resulting in a Portuguese win. Portugal earns
a point toward the next round and moves on with a 1-0 win over
Angola...

In Monday's early game Australia was down 1-0 in the second half, but scorched Japan with three goals in six minutes to win a big match 3 -1.

There is a lot of pressure on both of these teams this year. The fans of both squads are looking for an early start to help each team in what could easily be the toughest bracket of this years World Cup...

The Czech Republic is moving very well early, and has shown why they are ranked second in the world...

Goal!!! Goal!!!

Zdenek Grygera hits a perfect pass to his teammate in white, the very tall Koller (9) who slams in a header for the first point of the day. The favored Czech team strikes first with a pretty goal.

Czech Republic 1 - USA 0

The game is settling in and team USA is starting to press with some effectivness. This will be another very hot game in Germany. Will fatigue again run its course on these athletes like it appeared to do in the early match between Australai and Japan...

The Czech Republic is advancing fast after a USA goal attempt which did little to help the Americans score a equalizer...

The Czech team is still looking dangerous as they press on into the American side, but now the Americans are pressing and a shot on goal is taken, but just hits the post, missing by just inches. A great chance for the Americans but they come up short...

Around 15 minutes left in the first half. The Czech team is being very patient, and has earned a corner kick. But the Americans defended it well, but do not retain possesion...

Goal!!! Goal!!!

The Czech Republic scores its second goal... Rosicky (10) scores after an American defender heads out a kick on goal, and with a few quick steps he rifles a one timer into the net from seemingly nowhere. That was easily one of the best goals of the tourney so far...

Czech Republic now leads 2-0 over the USA

The always dangerous Koller (one goal today) has been taken off the field with what appears to be a leg injury...

Koller has been carried off and out of the arena. Hopefully the injury does not impact the rest of the tournament for him...

The first half comes to an end with the Czech Republic living up to its reputation...

Czech Republic 2 - USA 0

We are back for the second half. With the USA team down by 2 it is safe to say that if they are to have any chance at coming back in this match they must not allow the Czech team to score again.

Both teams appear to be testing out one another as they move back and forth across the field, neither team making any big moves...

Reyna the USA captain is yellow carded for his part in a collision which saw another Czech player taken off the field on the medical cot...

The Czech team continues to dominate with another close goal attempt, which the US keeper is lucky to pull down. This was followed by another nice pass on a seperate drive by a Czech striker but it could not be converted as it sailed high...

The USA continues to struggle and is still spending very little time away from their side of the pitch...

The Czech Republic fires another amazing shot on goal. However, the post saves another goal from going into the net... The Czech accuracy is extremely immpressive from such a great distance...

A shot on goal for the Americans sails just wide as some life is given to the American side...

Again the Americans have a shot at getting on the board but come up short as the ball ends up in the hands of the talented keeper for the Czech Republic instead of the net...

Goal!!! Goal!!!

Another goal as Rosicky (10) makes it look easy for his second score of the day with a brilliantly placed ball into the American net...

The Czech Republic's crowd begins to celebrate what certainly will be an all night affair...

The Americans line up for a free kick opportunity, but nothing comes of it...

A very good showing for the Czech Republic as they prove that they are the team to beat in this group, leaving the Americans with an uphill battle for the rest of this round...
