VANOC Counts Down: T-Minus 3 Years

The Vancouver Whistler Olympics begins in a mere 3 years. While this may seem like it's a far-off date, as we all know, "time flies". And while VANOC is off budget, over budget and mishaps like the BC Place Dome collapsing continues to plague the preparations, where's the hype?

Where's the positive Olympic spirit that this community is itching to rally behind. We're throwing the biggest party in the world in 3 years, and yet, you would never know it walking through the streets of Vancouver. Where are the murals? Where are the posters, flags, artwork, signage?

I understand that there are copyright rules and issues that inhibit the city's use of the Rings, logo, etc, but come on! We need passion, excitement and a little energy generated - a taste of the Olympic spirit! What about all of those tourists coming into town, walking the streets and loving this town?  I bet they'd like to know they could come back here for the Olympic Games.

Hiding on the web, the VANOC website will be featuring a different Olympic sport every day over the next 16 days. Too bad we weren't revealing a 10-storey mural each day over the next 16 days throughout the downtown core for ALL eyes to see, and all Winter Olympic fans and proud Vancouverites to revel in.
