Photos and reports are just now coming in from the violent windstorm that punished the entire Pacific Northwest. Many power lines are down shutting schools and businesses, stalling public transit, and as well, frustrating those looking for a hot cup of coffee.

Associate Press is reporting that 1.5 million homes and businesses in Washington and Oregon had no power early Friday. "One of the concourses at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport was without electricity, and an airport spokesman said some flights were canceled...about 30 flights were scratched at Portland International Airport, a spokesman said, and Amtrak canceled service between Portland and Seattle."

SOUTH COAST/CKNW(AM980) - A wind storm that lashed the south coast through most of the day has moved on.

The storm started to taper off about 6pm after robbing thousands of BC Hydro customers of their electricity. It has also brought down trees in Stanley Park and elsewhere as wind gusts reach 80 kilometres an hour in the Vancouver area and up to 100 in the valley.
