The Mediterranean Diet has always been touted as one of the healthiest for not only keeping your weight in check, but also because of its preventative properties. Now, a study out of Spain confirms some of these findings.   New evidence shows that virgin olive oil, which contains phenols may help fight blood clots in people with high cholesterol.  Phenols and inhibitors aside, olive oil is delicious. I guess it's time to drench away and not feel bad about it.
Two hours after the high-phenol meal, study participants' concentrations of factor VII antigen, which promotes blood clotting, were lower compared with the low-phenol group. The high-phenol group also experienced a greater drop in the activity of another clot promoter, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1.
