UPDATE: A NowPublic member has made us aware of a charity accepting donations in Emily's name. Rawldogs.org, a no-kill dog shelter in Emily's hometown of Rappahannock is accepting monetary donations in lieu of flowers. The member who alerted us of the charity said, "So [that's] why Emily is cooler than I am--because of all the organizations they could have picked for her memory they picked the coolest possible one."

Those people who wish to make free donations can do so by searching for Rawldogs.org through Goodsearch.com.

The NP team's creativity in finding the many faces to the story of this tragedy is
amazing. Meanwhile, I was out in the middle of BC's interior and didn't
even hear about this until the early evening. Upon my return, I opened NP and, within moments, saw beyond the normal news crawl and into the real human costs, at least to the extent that a remote viewer may.  Excellent, excellent work.
