Hernandez was placed on waivers on Tuesday. Diamondbacks claimed him
on Thursday, blocking the Nationals from being able to trade him to any
other team (if he had passed through waivers without a team claiming
him, then the Nationals could have traded him to any team). Nationals
could have revoked the waiver and pulled Hernandez back - keeping him
on the team.

RHP Garrett Mock & LHP Matt Chico (both
23, and both headed from the minors (AA) to the minors (AA -
Harrisburg)) were traded by traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the
Nationals.  Nationals allowed Arizona to acquire Hernandez through
waivers (did not pull back their claim) and also sent between $1.4 to
$2 million dollars to cover the rest of Hernandez 2006 salary.
Arizona will cover Hernandez $7 million 2007 salary.
