The nocturnal, long-toed salamander has had a tough time in Waterton.  When new curbs were installed at the townsite, the poor creatures were not able to climb them in their annual migration to Linnet Lake and died horrible, squishy deaths.   Kind-hearted volunteers tried to help by being there during the migration to lift them over the curbs.  That saved a few but the squash factor was still pretty high.  Now, salamander officials have come up with a plan to build salamander tunnels under the road.

We always forget about the little guys when we're building. Urban planning is such a difficult thing.
