Weam Namou was born in Baghdad, Iraq as a minority Christian and came to America at age ten. After she received her Bachelor's from Wayne State University, she honed her novel writing skills by corresponding with various authors. She studied screenwriting in film school, poetry in Prague and the personality of other cultures through traveling.
She is the author of two highly acclaimed novels, The Feminine Art and The Mismatched Braid, contemporary novels about Iraqis and Iraqi-Americans post the Gulf War. Her first book has been translated into Arabic and published in the Middle East. She is co-founder and president of the Iraqi Artists Association. Currently she is working on a feature film called Green Card Wedding.
