Driving in the Rain

Rain has been falling down on us for some weeks now, making the roads wet and slippery. Even the best drivers can get little nervous under these challenging driving conditions. With SFU Surrey near the Surrey Central Skystrain Station, the streets around these area are always packed with the locals, students, and working adults.

In my opinion, the streets in these areas are not yet fully developed or properly managed. As a SFU student, every time I got off class at night, the streets outside the campus are always dark. There are lights on the street but not quite enough to see the way going back to the skytrain.  This makes us wonder,”Are we safe at all?” This is an important notion that maybe the University of SFU or the Surrey communities should think about. Is this area a safe environment for the students to come and study or is this area a secure place for the people to live in?

As well for day times too, the drivers should pay more attentions to the safeties on roads for him or her and the pedestrians on the streets. Heavy rain can distract our awareness on the roads. I personally have a strong feeling about the safeties because I almost got hit by a car recently on one of the rainy days. The car came out pretty fast from a back alley and didn’t even slow down or stopped when it almost hit me.

The BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation has their upcoming Living Well, Driving Well mature drivers workshops recently for those who wish to review their winter driving skills. The workshops locally are set for Tuesday, October 24 at Fleetwood Villa retirement residence from 9:30 to 11:30a.m. The contact number to register is 604-590-2889. Also, the same workshop session happens at the same time at Centennial Arena on North Bluff Road in White Rock.  The number to call and register is 604-541-2161.
