Garuda pilot named suspect in Yogya plane crash

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police have named Garuda pilot Marwoto Komar suspect in the March 7 fatal plane crash at Yogyakarta`s Adi Sucipto Airport that killed 21 people.
"He was named suspect shortly after the KNKT (National Transportation Safety Committee) announced the cause of the accident," National Police Chief General Sutanto said on Friday.
Marwoto would soon stand trial, Sutanto said.
A Garuda B737-400 plane with 144 people on board overshot the runway and burst into flames at the airport on March 7, killing 21 people, including five Australian nationals.
The KNKT concluded that Marwoto was to blame for the accident as he ignored 15 warnings sounded by the ground proximity warning system.(*) END
