Last night as inhabitants of the city of La Paz were waiting for hurricane Henriette to pass by, another  small quake was felt. It's an amazing  omission how national news have barely mentioned the fact that earthquakes have been occuring since Saturday, September 01, 2007  at 13:14:22  beginning with an earthquake of  6.1 in magnitute and the latest on Tuesday September 04 at 9:07:39 pm. with a magnitude of 5.

Henriette was felt with great intensity in La Paz, not from the rain and wind, but from all the stress and tension caused by the latest seismic events, a total of 11 earthquakes.

September 5th 2007

Activity in the city of La Paz has been regaining its normality. There was basically no major damage. Today was cloudy and windy with no rain or earthquakes. La Paz is going back to peace! Tourist were taking photographs at the malecon and some even visited the serpentarium were the animals were safe and protected.

Schools will begin classes tomorrow after a two day break because of hurricane Henriette.

September 7th 2007

Latest earthwake with a magnitude of 4 occured on Thursday, September 06, 2007 at 9:25:40  increasing the number or earthquakes to 14. These earthquakes range from 4 to 6.1 in magnitude. The highest took place on Saturday, September 01, 2007  at 13:14:22, the second highest on Tuesday September 04 at 9:07:39 pm. with a magnitude of 5 and the third highest on September 02, 2007 at 5:04:46 with a magnitude of 4.9.

Many persons report feeling dizziness, vertigo, headaches and nausea caused by the vibrations on the floor that  have been perceived constantly since saturday. There is a lot of tension, considering the fact that La Paz is not a city known to have noticeable seismic events. Local Geologists have been interviewed to answer questions about the natives' biggest fear.... a Tsunami. Even though this can not be predicted or denied with certainty the geographical location of the city makes it very improbable.

Various Inside Readers

Roads in Baja Sur appear to have suffered little from the passage
of Hurricane Henriette. We have not yet received detailed road reports from
readers, but here is what we have learned so far.

Highway 1 - La Paz to East Cape is open and passable in a car.
There are many places where debris has washed into the road and a couple of
vados that must be forded. The construction around the bridge work is the most
difficult, mud and tire ruts. This was being worked on when we passed.

La Paz to Cabo San Lucas via Highway 19 (Todos Santos) Now open,
there were some closures initially at the Bordo in La Paz due to flooding. This
is now open. (They are currently constructing a bridge to remedy this problem)
Some wash into the road in several places. Road crews are on it.

Cabo San Lucas to San Jose del Cabo - "Henriette who?" No
problems.

La Paz to Pichilingue - Some washouts near Balandra - watch the
shoulder!

La Paz to Constitucion - Cars were being escorted across 2' of
water yesterday near the la Paz Airport, only the boldest of drivers crossed.
This section is open today. Much debris on the roadway. Large sharp rocks took
out one Insider's tire. Road is OK all the way to Constitucion.

Constitucion to Santa Rosalia - Minor flooding, some debris in the
road - lots of sunshine!

Santa Rosalia to San Diego -  No problems.

10AM MDT 09/08/07  Life is almost back to normal in Baja
Sur following the passage of Henriette. The remains of Hurricane Felix (magenta
arrow) now just a Low, is stirring up some thunderstorms and the system may
regenerate some, but winds above 25-30kts are not expected. The system is moving
NE and may bring rain to East Cape and northward, into the Sea in the next
24hrs. A High (blue arrow) has developed west of central Baja and will keep our
skies clear and dry outside the threat of rain from the Low. There are three
tropical waves on the map, but none are forecast to develop further.

1 of 2 Japanese travelers missing in hurricane-hit Mexico found dead

(Kyodo) _ One of two Japanese travelers who had gone missing off La Paz
in the hurricane-hit southern part of Baja California was found dead
Saturday, according to the Japanese Embassy in Mexico City.

The Mexican navy found the body of the 22-year-old Japanese man
from Hyogo Prefecture floating off La Paz and his family confirmed the
dead man's identity, the consular section at the embassy said.

The other missing Japanese is a 20-year-old man from Wakayama
Prefecture, the embassy said. The embassy has not disclosed their names
for privacy reasons.

Local authorities told Kyodo News that the name of the man confirmed dead is Kaname Kusakabe.

The two Japanese, who had been camping on an uninhabited island
about 30 kilometers north of La Paz, went missing after they boarded a
small boat Tuesday with the intention of returning to the city to avoid
Hurricane Henriette.

A Mexican man believed to be the boat's skipper is also missing.

Thank you for your nice first comment! I really appreciate it.   Do not go where the path may lead.  Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."~ Ralph Waldo Emerson.   I like this quote too!

patgarcia, thanks for this. This is definitely the first I've heard of the quakes, so I'd agree that the MSM is not really on this one. But you are! Great stuff.
