Severe tropical storm Krosa was upgraded to typhoon status today, two days after forming over the waters north west of Guam. According to latest data from the Japanese Meteorological Agency at 1200 GMT typhoon Krosa, meaning crane (bird) in Khmer, has sustained winds of 92mph with gusts to 130mph.
The current forecast is uncertain however it looks like Krosa could impact northern Taiwan and the Japanese islands of Ishigaki and Miyako as a major typhoon in about 3 days time. Typhoon Wipha swept through this region three weeks ago with ferious winds and torrential rain.
Typhoons regularly strike Japan, China, Taiwan and the Philippines over the summer and autumn months.
I am on standby to travel to Taiwan if the forecast is certain for a major strike. For more information please consult the following websites.
