This is a story. A young man is hit by a cannon blast at his high school football game in Washington. He all most has his leg amputated, and people bring him flowers wishing him all the best, right? Nope, not in Snohomish, the kid has actually been threatened to keep quiet about the incident by community members who fear their tradition of firing a cannon after a score may be jeopardized.

The cannon shot that ripped into Brett Karch's leg, causing a gaping combat-style wound, has also torn a hole in his hometown community of Snohomish.

Karch, whose leg was nearly amputated and who faces more than a year of physical rehabilitation with an uncertain outcome, has been the target of physical threats because of fears his injury will jeopardize the community's tradition of firing the ceremonial cannon before each high school football game and after touchdowns.

Many thanks, Calder . Hope the police can save the guy's other leg.

A few years ago, in a pretty dark and dangerous bar in Alert Bay, Canada, I actually witnessed a one-legged guy get in a fight. He took his leg off and swung it around, balancing on his good leg.

I think there was a similar scene in Thomas Pynchon's book, Gravity's Rainbow.

If there are any other stories around please let me know.
