What we
can do, and perhaps must
do, is to redesign our food and
agriculture system so that its functions are more consistent with our best
understanding of how the biotic community, in which the farm exists, works. We
can seek to provide adequate amounts of food by nurturing the potential for
increased productivity inherent in redesigned multi-species systems. It seems
imperative to pursue at least three objectives to that end.
