Why are we in Rockabilly gear?

So Friday night. Angel and I went to Elvie's. It was lame so we went to the Rendezvous. The Rendezvous was pretty lame, too, and some 40 something year-old guy wouldn't leave me alone, and there was a crazy brawl and my hair got pulled in the middle of it. I got mad Angel didn't see my hair being pulled, because she woulda done a great impersonation and I coulda laughed for days. Anywho. We went back to Elvie's and right away these two black dudes approach us and are very polite. Black dude with the afro whips out his iPod and Angel and I started making it happen. He had a bunch of rappers I'd NEVER heard of on there, some early 90's craziness, Mariah Carey. We were pleasantly surprised to see that he had The Strokes on it, so we share the headphones and start singing along to "Someday." It was 2001 all over again. Black guy with the yellow teeth tells black guy with the afro, "They like The Strokes? Ah, hell ya! Tell 'em who got you into the Strokes! Tell them! It was me! It was me! Yeah, these kinda girls like The Strokes! Man, you need to get some emo on there! You need to get some emo! Like Radiohead! You need to get some Radiohead on there!" Emo... Radiohead... Emo? Radiohead? A few mins. later, two girls got in a fight, one threw her Bud Lite in the air, and the beer got all over Angel's back so we left. We spent far more time getting ready than we did actually out. Then again, girls who actually "get ready" to go to dive bars in Covina deserve a bad night!
