Myspace.com is a networking community on the web that allows its members as well as bands, singers, dj's, promoters and other professionals to connect. Artists can post tour-dates, news and contests right on their profile page, parties and concerts get promoted this way, free tickets are given away in contests, you can add an artists song to your own profile by the click of a button, you can upload photos, videos, change layouts - there's much to do on myspace.com. Grant it, recently the website has come under attack from critics for being unsafe, as you can also browse members by zip-code, gender, interests, photos... there is a functon that allows members to search for potential "dates" - an unwanted side-effect perhaps for professionals who use this website as a promotion tool.

Most artists have jumped on the band-wagon and had a myspace profile created for themselves. While some artists clearly don't have the time to maintain their site themselves, others devote a little time each week to interact with their devoted fans, never before were music fans able to connect music / celebrity fans on such a personal level. In the past, you has to oin fan clubs or join mailing lists on websites to receive updates, now all you have to do is create a profile, add your favorite artist to your "friends" and read their daily bulletins.

Raheem Devaughn currently gives away tickets for his US tour, Lalah Hathaway has one personal and one artist profile as well as a website where she interacts with visitors in a forum. Possibilities are endless for creative promoters / labels to get their artists music heard, to create a public image and to get the word out about upcoming events, concerts, even castings or talent searches.
Ginuwine's brother maintains Ginuwine's profile as well as his own, it appears he is a multi-talented person in his own right, filming events, creating website layouts and graphics. And he shares personal things like when his apartment caught on fire! MySpace acts as a 'equalizer" reminding us that celebs and "common people" alike have common issues... problems, achievements... some are a little more successful, have a little more resources, connections / money - but in the end people like P.diddy who allow us to catch glimpses of their lives are just as crazy as you and me...
