The fire burning in the hills west of Interstate 5 has surpassed early predictions of how large it would grow, and crews made no progress overnight in containing it. As of 7 a.m. this morning, the blaze -- called the Canyon Fire -- had scorched 24,338 acres and was 30 percent contained.
