The trees across the street from my place during the wind storm of December 14, 2006. With all the nearby trees, the wind gusts sound bad, but I know the local gusts are only around 35 miles per hour. According to the news, the Coast had gusts up to 97 MPH, and 115,000 customers are without power in the metro area.10pm Update: PGE now reports 225,000 customers without power, Clark PUD reports 16,000, and Pacific Power (not sure of their coverage area) reported an additional 93,000 outages making this the largest regional outtage in 11 years. Gusts have now been reported up to 52 MPH near where this photo was taken.Favorite TV News Quote of the evening: "With this many outages, many of you may be listening to us on our radio simulcast. If you need to report an outage, please call one of the numbers listed on the screen below". 11PM Update: Wind gusts here in Vancouver have hit 79 MPH, and Portland now has 250,000 outages. This is a 5 second exposure at f/2.2 at 200 ISO. I tried longer exposures but the clouds and trees moved so much that the whole photo looked out of focus. Instead, I used Photoshop to slightly brighten the image and fix the color balance. I would have liked to do that in-camera, but it just doesn't cooperate well at night. Speaking of that, how do you adjust your light balance for night photography?
