PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - Tiger Woods has been named the PGA TOUR Player of the Year by his fellow competitors it was announced Tuesday by PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. Woods will receive his eighth Jack Nicklaus Trophy in recognition of his selection.

It was announced last week that Jay Haas has been named Champions Tour Player of the Year, while the Nationwide Tour Player of the Year will be announced next week.

“Tiger has shown a remarkable ability to raise his game to the highest level and then sustain that excellence,” said Finchem. “Winning the Jack Nicklaus Trophy for the eighth time in 10 years is testimony to his greatness.”

For Woods, the honor caps a season in which he won eight times and led the TOUR in earnings with more than $9.9 million. He won the British Open and PGA Championship to raise his career major championship total to 12. He also won his 12th and 13th World Golf Championships events at the Bridgestone Invitational and American Express Championship, his fifth victory in each of those events.

He ended the season with a current streak of six consecutive victories, and raised his career victory total to 54, good for fifth on the all-time list.

Woods also won the Arnold Palmer Award for leading the TOUR in earnings and the Bryon Nelson Trophy for having the TOUR’s lowest scoring average (68.11).
