PUSH ME, BABY!
Did you vote today? I did. 100%
It was fantastic. The lot was full when I arrived and I had to drive around to find a spot for a few minutes. And there was actually a line! It wasn't very long, since I got to the polls at about 1030am. All the early morning folks had already left. Plus, my district is fairly small. Only a few neighborhoods up against the larger area of commercial zones further into Herndon.
This is huge for me. I'm super excited and I've gotten more and more excited as I've heard about the huge voter turnouts all across the country.
I voted for Al Gore in 2000, a scant few months after I'd actually turned 18. I was floored that my polling place was as empty as it was when I voted that time. Every election, there seemed to be fewer and fewer people at the little elementary school that I go to to vote. But this time...
I saw Saul Williams perform with the Mars Volta back in early 2004. He talked about how the youth vote, the realists, the democrats... They would press up against the sides of the blemish that was the established power in Washington, DC, popping it like the giant white-head that it was. I don't think he was wrong. We pushed that year. But we didn't push hard enough.
Now, there are more of us, pushing even harder. We're going to pop that zit like mad. Then, we're going to help each other clean it up.
You know, or else we'll be cooked alive on our boiling planet, simmered to death in toxic waste.
PS! GO OBAMA! VA! MD! DC! HUZZAH!
