A mine killed a security personnel and seriously wounded 2 others in Ashraf Abad area of tehsil Khawaizai bordering <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Afghanistan some 50 kilometers to the north from regional headquarters, Ghallanai, on Wednesday morning, tribal and official sources told.
The sources said that a vehicle of local security forces, Khasadar, was on their routine patrol in Khawaizai area along the border of eastern Afghanistan, when a planted anti-tank mine ripped through their vehicle injuring three of the Khasadar forces near Ashraf Abad. According to sources, the vehicle was completely destroyed and the injured were immediately taken to the Ghallanai hospital and later to Peshawar where one of them could not succumbed to the injuries and died. The deceased was later identified as Saraf son of Tamriz Khan. The wounded were identified as Ahmad Ali son of Said Muhammad and Hazrat Said son of Mulla Jan. Khaiwaizai area was once a hot bed of militants but their hegemony was shunned when Aman (peace) Committee of Ashraf Abad was constituted and it drove away the militants from the area with the help of security forces. Three heads of the committee have been killed so far at different occasions in retaliatory attacks by militants. The worst such incident of mine blast occurred on October 24, 2009 in Sorandara of tehsil Safi when a vehicle carrying passengers to a wedding hit an anti-tank mine, killing 16 people including two men, five women and nine children.
