NP Rank:
115 Pregnant Girls at Chicago's Robeson High School
A total of 115 girls are pregnant at Chicago's Paul Robeson High School. The entire school only has about 800 girls, so that means that 1 out of every 8 girl is pregnant.
There is no specific reason why Robeson High is experiencing such a high rate of pregnancies amongst its students. Robeson principal Gerald Morrow cited the young girls' home environment as being a factor, "It can be a lot of things that are happening in the home or not happening in the home, if you will."
There is work being done to improve the quality of life in the surrounding neighborhood to Robeson High. Developers are working on turning a one-time crack house into a day-care center for student use.
Not on Morrow's turf. "We're not looking at them like 'Ooh you made a mistake,'" he said. "We're looking at how we can get them to the next phase, how can we still get them thinking about graduation?"

I believe the following story sheds a little more light on this sad situationpeacemoonbeam.typepad.com/scooters_report/2009/10/115-girls-pregnant-at-high-school.html

Wow, somebody should've informed them of my story Top 10 Reasons NOT to Get Pregnant. What is going on with these kids??
at 13:02 on October 16th, 2009
They are kids.
Back in the olden days, boys were told to keep their pants zipped, girls were told to keep their legs crossed.
Those adages went out the window with most other common sense ideas more than a few years ago. Shame has been banned as well.....can't have the kiddies feeling they did something wrong, now can we?

No one mentions that these children will be on the welfare rolls, medicaid, food stamps, etc. Then, most likely they will be in gangs or in trouble and will be incarcerated. Most will be a drain on our society.

When all the kids hear on the radio is stuff like "sex, that were havin", "sweat it out", "i get it in", what do u really expect them to do? If they don't listen to the radio and watch t.v. instead, that's just as bad, because that's all that's on regular t.v. now is sex.

Hahahah that is hilarious. I wonder if they invested in abstinence teaching and waved the condom handouts.

There have always been 1 in 8 pregnant. The great news is that they are staying in school instead of disappearing.

this is what years of prudeness bring about....educate kids!!!! give them condoms/pills like in europe!!!!having herds of uneducated "mothers" with herds of uneducated kids who are not going to grow up in the best environment is not the best for this country, and of course, all the food stamps, welfae services tese "mothers" are going to ask for are going to come out of our pockets...just because this country is too afraid to teach kids about sex...and rather tell them to be abstinent until age 30 or something.....unreal....

I think this story is extremely sad. I was a teenage mother myself and I know how hard it can get, but I am in no way part of the statistics because I actually finished high school went to college and now have a great job working at a law firm despite having 4 children by the age of 27. These girls have no idea the amount of money it takes to care for a child, the amount of time and energy it takes to care for them. I had to work my ass off to get to where I am today, I have been through some really rough times but I got through them with the support of my husband and my want to provide my children with a better future. i think most of these girls are thinking about themselves and not about the future of their unborn child. It makes me sad that most of those kids will not grow up in an enviorment that will allow them to grow up and be wonderful human beings that have something positive to offer society.

What the fuck is happening to this country? Has our society just given up on good moral values? Do these teenage girls have no respect for themselves? Maury Povich warned us all about the high statistics of violent, over-sexed teenagers.

You sound like you have great morals and values "Angry_Reader". Why don't you stop bitching and do something proactive instead of spewing hatred. First seek to understand.

Whatever. This is sad, but it just shows a lack of the adults and parents giving the advice "Be safe," instead of abstain! Please people, every single teenager out there is horny. And they're bored. Of course they're going to be having sex. The right way to approach the subject, however, is not by saying that they can't do something: that's only going to make them want to do it more. You need to be informing them of the effects that unprotected sex can have on their lives. Hey, no one really wants to go out and buy their kids condoms, but I'd rather be buying condoms than diapers.

This is truly a sad story. These babies will start life at such a disadvantage. Some will be able to make a good life, but most will only continue the cycle. Victims create other victims.....The mothers are victims of their environments as will their children be...

i have a certain family member that is pregnant at this school i think its because of their home enviroment. if she wouldve been taught like i did that for young teen mothers who have no job that it would be hard having to raise you and your child

just because alot of these girls are getting pregnant doesnt mean all are fast.....people make mistakes........by labeling all of them as fast, sluts, whores, etc is only making it worst!!!people really need to watch what they say......im not saying its ok for them to have babies as such an early age......but when they do make the mistake we need to help them so they wont make it again!!!!!!!

if 1 in 8 girls is pregnant i bet it would be frightening the know what percentage of the school kids have stds...it's one thing to have unsafe sex and become preganant, you have choices, although not everyone may like them (whether it be abortion, adoption or chossing to raise the child) , but what about things like aids? once you have it you are stuck with it, there is no going back. what are these kids doing?

it is not that teenagers are fast they are usually pressured into having sex other ppl they noe have had it so it seems ok to do it not noeing tha outcome of having unprotected sex.things they see on tv and hear to encourage them and yessssss they do get 'HORNY' its something theyy crntt control and iff they arntt taught how it will affect them obviously they are grna get pregnant boys are also very persuasive and usually control or force them into doing a sexual act or having sexual intercourse.girls also find thee only way to win a boys heart is to perform sexual acts and 'turn them onn'!they may look like whores and sluts butt they are just confused.taking pictures and sending dirty texts is just a way of getting a boys attention and sometimes is thaa ONLY way.having sex also feeds craving they may have and crnt control.ITS NATURAL.exposing young ppl to sex is only getting them to accept it into their lifes and want to experience it.so before you judge young ppl and classify them as thaa same andd whores skets slags think why wouldd they want to do it onlyy a few teenagers have sex just for fun.
