Roy, I am afraid you are totally wrong when you think Pakistan is on the edge of being a failed state. In fact, there will be no Taliban threat or the risk of Pakistan being failed state, if the foreign troops left Afghanistan. As far as money from the US is concerned, it too does not matter. The funds Pakistan is getting from the US for the past eight years are not in alms but compensation for a part of losses Pakistan is suffering in the futile war of the US.
I am sure you would not agree with my point but it is a fact that the US and her allies want to turn Pakistan into a failed state for their nefarious designs against the country, which absolved them of the Cold War. Let's us see what happens in the time to come.

A huge majority of people around the globe want a different approach to eliminate the menace of terrorism but God knows why the ruling elite and military commanders of the concerned countries not paying heed to such calls, which is very unfortunate.

that is true Hussain and Amaad.. we have killed more terrorists we have captured more terrorists we have lost more men fighting the taliban but still we are acqused of supporting taliban and not doing enough. it is nothing but making Pakistan a scapegoat while trying to find excuses for their own failures.
it is NATO which has failed in Afghanistan lol..

To Roy.
The Bombing of Japan did kill millions of innocent Civilian in order to save a few USA GI Soldiers not the other way around.
The Bombing of Tokyo alone was a massacre worth then any one on record. You may want to visit Tokyo's museum in memory of that Night in March 1945.
Followed by many other carpet bombing, not strategic bombing, but carpet bombing killing every one with out mercy as well as the nice Atom Bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The List of Terror acts financed and instigated by the US is far greater. Do not forget that the US made Al-Qaida strong and armed them in the war against the former Soviets and the US supported the Taliban as well as other war Lords in the war against the Soviet.
All the Terrorist combined can not ever beat the US war victims. Remember My Lai Massacre, Operation Ranch Hand,
List of US bombing since 1945,
Africa:Congo, Somalia, Sudan, Libya
Asia:Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, China, Korea, Laos
Middle East/Southwest Asia:Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Lebanon
Central/South America:Panama, Grenada, Cuba, El Salvador, Peru, Guatemala, Nicaragua
Europe:Bosnia, Serbia
Prior US attacks causing countless civilian Death and disaster.
The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasakiwere nuclear attacks near the end of World War IIagainst the Empire of Japan by the United States at the executive order of U.S. President Harry S. Truman on August 6 and 9, 1945. After six months of intense fire-bombing of 67 other Japanese cities, the nuclear weapon"Little Boy" was dropped on the city of Hiroshima on Monday,[1] August 6, 1945, [2] followed on August 9 by the detonation of the "Fat Man" nuclear bomb overNagasaki. These are to date the only attacks with nuclear weapons in the history of warfare.[3]
The Bombing of Dresden by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and United States Army Air Force (USAAF) between 13 February and 15 February 1945, twelve weeks before thesurrender of the Armed Forces (Wehrmacht) of Nazi Germany, remains one of the most controversial Allied actions of the Second World War. The raids saw 1,300 heavy bombers drop over 3,900 tons of high-explosive bombs and incendiary devices in four raids, destroying 13 square miles (34 km2) of the city, the baroque capital of the German state of Saxony, and causing a firestorm that consumed the city centre.[2] Estimates of civilian casualties vary greatly, but recent publications place the figure between 24,000 and 40,000.[3]
The large port city of Hamburg, Germany, was very heavily bombed many times by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) during World War II. During one of the attacks in July 1943 a firestorm was created that caused tens of thousands of mostly civilian casualties.
Berlin, the capital of Germany, was subject to 363 air raids during World War II.[1] It was bombed by the RAF Bomber Command between 1940 and 1945, and by the USAAFEighth Air Force between 1942 and 1945, as part of the Allied campaign of strategic bombing of Germany. In 1945 it was also attacked by aircraft of the Red Air Force as Soviet forces closed on the city.
It war called Fire bombing, kill and destroy every one and every thing so they may never get up ever again. Churchill did even call for the extermination of all Germans. The Japanese Suffered an equal faith.
335 B-29s took off[1] to raid on the night of 9–10 March, with 279 of them[1] dropping around 1,700 tons of bombs. Fourteen B-29s were lost.[1] Approximately 16 square miles (41 km²) of the city were destroyed and some 100,000 people are estimated to have died in the resultingfirestorm, more than the immediate deaths of either Hiroshima or Nagasaki.[2][3] The US Strategic Bombing Survey later estimated that nearly 88,000 people died in this one raid, 41,000 were injured, and over a million residents lost their homes. The Tokyo Fire Department estimated a higher toll: 97,000 killed and 125,000 wounded. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department established a figure of 124,711 casualties including both killed and wounded and 286,358 buildings and homes destroyed. Richard Rhodes, historian, put deaths at over 100,000, injuries at a million and homeless residents at a million. These casualty and damage figures could be low: Mark Selden wrote in Japan Focus
The destruction and damage was at its worst in the city sections east of the Imperial Palace.

whenever US says, Pakistan needs to do more, what they mean is Pakistani forces should be killing as many cilvilians per attack like Americans have been doing in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan.
with 80% of Afghanistan out of their hands they are expecting to win the Afghan war by pressing Pakistani forces in Tribal areas. and keep blaming their complete defeat at the hands of Taliban in Afghanistan to Pakistanis.. wow what a logic.

Roy mate, no Quran doesnt justify it.. it only talks about self defence and expresses disapproval to anyone who starts the conflict.
re atomic bomb, getting the Japan to surrender and saving million lives I might relactantly agree to first bomb but second was totally unjustified when Japan had already given up it was exploded just for the sake of data collection I am affraid.
lets agree on one point though Taliban are a risk to our way of life.. they aim to force their ideology which majority doesnt approve. instead of continuously pulling cheap shots and acqusing each other to the pleasure of Taliban lets get on with the job and get rid of them. How? this is open for debate.
US military just needs to show alteast half of respect or concern to the Afghan and Pakistani civilian population while discharging their weaponry, as they might do if it was US and people underneath happened to be Americans.. I know we cant expect the exact amount of care or mindfulness with the triggger happy marines who are videoed giggling while blowing up civilians and buildings. but if the idea of doing more means kill 10 civilians for every one or no terrorist killed then it would never happen in Pakistan and Pakistan forces will never do it.
you might need to nuke Pakistan then another country then another until you have nuked the whole world and left with US only.. I am sure your historians will come up with a good excuse or explanation for doing it just like you gave one about Japan.
peace

well said..Hussain.. so Pakistan is a failed state because it is willing to talk to taliban and agreed to sharia law in Swat which was the demand of that place even before people of US knew if there was a country called Afghanistan and Pakistan.
yet since the war started back in 2000 taliban roam freely all over the country and Allied forces are reduced to mostly their bases or air strikes and face heavy resistance and loose men whenever they are moving on ground. first it was British now even US senior command is talking about seeking a dialog with "non-violent Taliban"
yet this dialog is a forbidden fruit for Pakistan.. right?

Thank you for this important story.

This has certainly been an interesting rapid-fire exchange of views and I thank all for the facts and figures presented. It certainly is important for such an exchange to take place and I must at this point say that we must be thankful that we are able to do this on a regular basis, thanks to Now Public. With all the sophisticated technology at their disposal, rest assured the terrorists' Search engines have already wormed their way through here as they go looking for new outlets and recruits. Your words are under consideration. Bravo !

Well put Fred, and everyone here who has commented, certainly both sides of the issues bring many to verbal blows in ideologies. I would say, lets agree to disagree, resolve the issues and state "War is Hell"! Especially on the innocent who for some reason in all this destruction still believe in a God!

When will we learn. Does any one actually care about the people that get killed and suffer in al this?
at 10:46 on April 1st, 2009
its a shame that world seems to sing in Unison that Islamists are the biggest terrorists yet the only ones who managed to commit the holocast and drop not one but two atomic bombs happen to be Cristian nations. one wonders

Faith can move mountains, as they say. A tiny Nun in Calcutta did something along those lines.
at 23:37 on March 31st, 2009
Of course, majority of the people killed in such strikes are always civilians and rarely all militants are killed in this type of attacks, furthering deepening problems of Pakistani government.
at 00:05 on April 1st, 2009
I say just sory about U.S policy about so called terrororism in which many innocent have been killed.
at 10:56 on April 1st, 2009
Really, Amaad. Yet the bombs in Japan saved millions of lives because the Japanese gov't finally gave in to surrender instead of fighting to the last man.
So, whatever dark aspect exists to dropping the bomb, the result of our "conquest" of Japan is that it was cured of its imperialism and brought about a real democratic republic as is the case in Iraq, where we see real elections, women's suffrage, and a future as a democratic republic.
The list of countries that have acts of terror brought about by Muslims trying to impose the Law of Sharia and who have killed innocent civilians would even be longer.
The Koran justifies it, though, no?
at 12:14 on April 1st, 2009
You are right. However, it is not their fault but of Pakistani rulers, otherwise the foreign troops would have left Afghanistan long time ago.
at 10:58 on April 1st, 2009
We should let Afghanistan revert to Taliban control? What about letting Pakistan stay in Taliban control and then let it take the rest of the country as well?
Pakistan is on the edge of being a failed state. Just a little push more from the Taliban and/or no money from the US and it is all over.
at 20:47 on April 1st, 2009
Yeah! the apporach is to nuke you pukistan mother fuckers.
