Twelve people were injured, three of them critically, when a sport-utility vehicle went out of control and plowed into a crowd of people at a Crestwood auto auction Wednesday morning.

At about 11:45 a.m., the Crestwood Fire Department responded to an accident at the Tri-State Auto Auction and transported 12 people to area hospitals, according to Crestwood Fire Department Capt. Kevin McAuliffe.

Preliminary reports from witnesses indicated that a car that was being brought up for auction suddenly accelerated, ran through a crowd of people inside the auction building, and struck a minivan before driving through a doorway outside where it crashed into another crowd of people.
