A suicide bomber attacked a senior police officer in northern Baghdad and killed at least 13 people.
The police said the bomber, either in a car or lorry, was driving towards the house of Nadhim Taeih, a top police official from the interior ministry.
The blast, which went off at around 2:30 pm (1130GMT), wounded at least 50 people, including some members of Taeih's family, the police said.
Taeih's house was destroyed in the blast but he and his family are not among the dead.
It was not immediately clear if he was wounded.
Most of the dead and injured were civilians who were crushed when their homes collapsed.
