Honduras Plane Crash: Central American Airways Flight 731 Crashes Near Tegucigalpa

A Central American Airlines flight crashed while en route from San Pedro Sula (SAP) to Toncontin International Airport in Tegucigalpa (TGU). All 14 aboard were killed. The flight number was CAI 731. No passenger list has yet been released.

The plane was a Let L-410 turbolet, a twin-engined, 19-seat aircraft.

The chief of the Honduran Air Force, Colonel Ruiz Pastor Lanza, said the military branch received word that a flight from San Pedro Sula to Tegucigalpa had lost contact with air traffic controllers, and that helicopters and ambulances were dispatched to the region.

The accident site has already been the scene of another disaster in the past, in fact it has been at a mile from Sahsa, where October 21, 1989 killed 139 people.
